How I cut out a shelf (medal holder) for my daughter
Almost a year has passed since I finally got around to testing out the jigsaw I bought for myself last New Year. I planned to saw it in the summer, but fortunately the weather was kind, and work in the dacha was my priority.
My daughter does ballet and really loves the corresponding paraphernalia, so she wanted to organize a place to store her awards. Don't repeat my mistake, print a blank outline without filling. When sawing occurs along the border of a black fill, it is difficult to maintain the outline and is difficult to see. Next is the fitting on pieces of wood, here it becomes clear that we could easily get by with two shields instead of three.
Next is the tedious task of gluing the paper through masking tape onto the wood, then the paper is cut along the edges of the boards, and you can start sawing. My machine is jet jss-16a, I can’t say that I’m very pleased with it, I haven’t completely overcome the beating of the saw in the area of the lower mount, there are unpleasant vibrations. Based on the design of such machines, there are restrictions on the length of the part, so we had to make a “seam” along the waist of the figure, otherwise the workpiece would rest against the body.

The cut surprisingly turned out normal by my standards, almost without lint, I used a pinguin silver #3 file if anyone is interested. Next, I glued the small parts with wood glue, and fastened the large parts with the now fashionable oblique screw, bought from the Chinese. The trick is controversial, I haven’t fully mastered it yet, there’s a bit of a lack of data on the length of the drilling, the parts are fastened a little “tightly”, it’s hard to achieve a plane with such fastening, when fastening at 90 degrees, the parts also tend to tilt inwards towards each other. Well, you have to be smart with self-tapping screws. If you use the instructions from the original (kreg), then in general the result is nonsense, not a connection.
When the assembly of the figure was completed, a fascinating and lengthy time of grinding began, both on the plane and on the cuts, I sanded with my hands, I didn’t want to create too much dust, 80-120, 240 sandpapers.
Sanding is a rather thankless task, because as soon as you apply the paint, the pile will rise and you will have to sand everything again, the surface will be disgusting to the touch. Here I tried a small life hack: I walked over the surface with a damp sponge after sanding but before painting, then sanded it again and then started painting, it was more pleasant to work this way, I had to sand a little less. Sanding my legs was quite pleasant, the main thing is not to get carried away.
Acrylic paints, 3 or 4 layers, sanding between layers without fanaticism, dries quickly, does not smell, then coated with acrylic glossy varnish. In the intervals between drying, I cut out the shelf directly, I didn’t print the sketch, I sketched it out with a pencil and sawed it out.
I screwed the shelf from the inside out using self-tapping screws (yellow, thick ones), with preliminary drilling, and also attached the hanging fittings there. Trying on in the room, I had to tinker to keep the plane horizontal.
My daughter is happy, and this is the main thing. The shelf is small, but when the awards accumulate, you can make a new one))

Street artists complete the decoration of the wall of the Samara State District Power Plant
At the Samara State District Power Plant (Samarsky branch of T Plus PJSC), the design of the concrete fencing is nearing completion. Until the end of October, 85 spans of walls of the oldest power plant in the Volga region will be decorated with images of landmarks and iconic places of the regional capital. The project is being implemented with the support of the Samara city district administration.
The painting of the object is carried out by a group of street artists led by Denis Kandalin (Vertigo). He is a participant in numerous exhibitions and festivals (Coffee Grinder, Snickers Urbania, Yalta Summer Jam, Stenograffia), as well as an art project for painting the facades of Samara high-rise buildings for the World Cup - “Champions for Champions.”
In total, 20 drawings will appear on the wall of the Samara State District Power Plant, each of which will be made in one of the colors of the “Samara palette”: “Kurmyshovy”, “Yellow Bread”, “Evening Strukovsky” and “Late Sunset”, “Spring Proran”, “Zavolzhsky Dawn” " and others. The total length of the power plant wall, which will be artistically decorated, is about 300 meters.
Let us remind you that the painting of the concrete fence of the Samara State District Power Plant became a continuation of the art project “Common Solution”, which was implemented at the VolgaFest-2021 festival. Then she invited residents of the regional capital to choose their favorite color from 20 options, and then take part in painting the wall of the power facility. Moreover, each color received its own unique name, associated with famous locations in its hometown. As a result, city residents themselves became volunteers to paint the wall of the power plant.
